Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania (After mount Kilimajaro), and the 5th highest in Africa.
Mount Meru is in close proximity to Arusha National Park; only 15km from Arusha National Park entrance gate. It is an active, but dormant volcano, situated north of Arusha city. Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro shares the same climatic condition. From mount Meru to Mount Kilimanjaro it is just 70km apart.
Meru stand at 4566m height. Many climbers use Mount Meru as a warm up, before starting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbing to the summit will give you a taste of what you should expect on climbing Kilimanjaro.
The height of Meru will acclimatize your body to make changes to adapt the altitude, which will be a good preparatory condition for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Many visitors, especially who doesn’t have experience on climbing high mountains, find it necessary to climb Mount Meru, and then Mount Kilimanjaro.
